How to Use Traffic Info

The traffic portion of the web site and telephone system tracks traffic on select area roadways and roadway segments. The roadways covered by our system were identified as the most heavily traveled in the Tampa Bay Area.

You can view real-time traffic information on any of these selected roadways two ways:

  1. View the Map
    1. The map shows real time flow for some roads, current traffic and transit incidents, and events scheduled for today.
    2. Only the most serious incidents are shown when the map is zoomed all the way out. Zoom in to see more detail.
    3. Click on a shield or a county name to zoom in quickly. If you click on one of these shortcuts the map will jump to a close up of that segment or county.
    4. Use the magnifying glass tool or the sliding zoom scale to adjust the magnification of the map further.
    5. Use the 'hand tool' to move the map around if you've already zoomed in.
    6. The checkboxes at the bottom of the map are used to show or hide certain map features. If the map looks too crowded you can turn off certain categories of incidents.
    7. You can change the color scheme used for showing flow on the roadways with the pulldown menu to the right of the checkboxes.
    8. The legend button will show/hide a legend panel that indicates what the various icons mean.
    9. The map will 'remember' where you left it for about 20 minutes and jump back to that view if you leave the map page and come back to it later.
  2. View traffic
    1. This page lists select area Roadways with current traffic problems.
    2. Listed underneath the main ROADWAY title are the Segments of the roadway where the traffic INCIDENTS exist.
    3. Click on the SEGMENT name to view more specific details about the problem segment.
    4. Click on the ROADWAY name to view the page that lists all of the segments for the particular roadway.
